eyelet cap

this is the eyelet cap from vogue knitting, fall 2009. i knew i had to knit this pattern when i skimmed through the magazine the first time.

i definitely wanted to use hand dyed yarn but nothing with outlandish colour combinations. so my choice was the 6ply tweed from drachenwolle. and i haven’t been disappointed! the colours are great, it feels good and was a pleasure to knit. i’m a huge fan of purple/berry colours at the moment. i guess you can see that when you have a look at my recent projects 😉

on the photo you can see the 6ply yarn on the left.

i changed the pattern a little and made the ribbed part shorter as i didn’t want the hat to get too slouchy. i reduced the ribbing from 20,5cm to 17cm and it turned out just as i planned and hoped.

can’t wait for the next cold day to wear it! 🙂

turkish shawl

i knit this scarf on the beach in turkey, therefore turkish shawl. obviously 😉 the people stared at me as if i was a nutjob for knitting on the beach, but hey, i’m a rebel, right?! 😉

the colours are very „autumn“ and the yarn feels sooo soft and cosy.

yarn: wendy happy, colourway scorpio. bougth this yarn in birmingham, uk. then i brought it with me to germany and then to turkey. it’s a travelling yarn 😉

pattern: simple yet effective shawl

a plum hat

i knit this hat in one day. it’s a very quick and easy project. it also turned out very warm and cosy. as i have more of the yarn and bought some additional buttons i’ll make a matching neck warmer to go with it.

it’s called „plum hat“ because the colourway of the yarn is called „plum“ 🙂

winter can come!

pattern: robin’s egg blue hat by rachel iufer

yarn: drachenwolle, 100% wool, 100m/100g, handwash

yet without buttons. it was very difficult to find some in the right colour. originally i wanted one big one but didn’t find a matching one…

the finished project. i’m glad you can’t see my tousled morning hair under the hat 😉

callum’s cardi II

here you can see little callum from london showing off his new sheep cardigan. isn’t he cute?! and the sweater fits really well.

i knit the size 6-9 months, remember? he is not even 2 months old! so either he is a huge baby or the measures of the pattern are way off!

anyway, it fits and i’m happy with the outcome. will post more photos when i get them (tomorrow?)…

lacy baktus scarf

pattern: lacy baktus – a very easy yet effectful pattern. i prefere the lace version because it looks more interesting than the normal baktus.

yarn: my own handspun. purple paradise. the first thing i produced you could actually call „yarn“ 🙂 it’s shetland roving and could be a bit softer. but it will be really warm 🙂

these photos were taken pre-blocking because i wanted to use the sunny weather to take phots. it’s drying now and has become bigger – especially in length.

callum’s cardi

this is a cardigan for my friend kevin’s little boy, callum. he is just 3 weeks old now so i guess he’ll have some room to grow into it.

aren’t those buttons adorable? the friend i was shopping with that day and me both fell in love with them on first sight and i had to have them for this cardigan. it gives it the special something 😀

the cardi will make its way to london by post tomorrow 🙂 i guess kev is too busy with the baby and moving house at the moment so that he won’t regularly check this blog and sneak a peek before it arrives in wooly person 😉 so… i’m going to post it now.

pattern: Offset Wraplan by Sara Morris. i knit size 6-9 months but it turned out a little small i think

yarn: wolle rödel siena. 100% merino extrafine superwash. 2 balls of the dark colour, 1 of the lighter contrast colour. it’s the same yarn i used for my yellow pullover – very, very soft and stretchy as well.

buttons: cutest sheep buttons in the world 😉 bought at karstadt in frankfurt

temple socks

these socks are for my dad. he chose this yarn himself when i sent them to buy wollmeise yarn for me at the handwerkermarkt in sindelfingen. so i’m not to be blamed – the man wanted red socks himself! 😛 he sais it’s dalai lama colour and that’s perfect because he wants to wear them when he goes to his weekly sessions to the buddhist temple in stuttgart. that’ll keep his feet warm while his mind is engaged with more spiritual matters 😉

i hope they fit. he didn’t try them on yet.

yarn: wollmeise twin, 80% merino superwash / 20% polyamide, colourway: granatapfel. the wollmeise was a pleasure to knit – as always!

pattern: Mash-Up Magic Toe-Up Socks Recipe as a basis and i added a cable on the outer side of each foot

thunderstorm gloves

tadaaa. my first finger gloves ever from handspun yarn. i’m really happy with the result. the yarn feels nice and is really warm. although the pattern was really good and i did my best to avoid it, i had holes between all the fingers. but i just sewed them close when weaving in the ends and it’s hardly visible anymore… i hope the yarn won’t felt too much when i wear and wash them. the winter can come! 😉

pattern: knotty gloves, julia müller

yarn: thunderstorm, handspun

excuse the not so nice photos, but it’s really hard to take a photo of TWO gloves (incl hands) by yourself at the same time… 😉

yellow summer pullover

finally finished! i’m so proud! it took me months and a lot of nerves but it was worth it. i love the result!

yarn: 13 balls of siena, wolle rödel, colourway „sonne“, 100% merino

needles: 3.5mm and 4.5 mm circular needles (knitpicks interchangeable)

pattern: modell 13, lana grossa filati handstrick no 36

shetland sea

yarn:  100% shetland roving from wheeldale woolcrafts in blue-grey-turquoise. handspun by me into a lace weight 2-ply yarn. it has 88g and 610m. the shetland roving isn’t as soft as i would like it to be but the yarn turned out very airy and light. and i love the colours.

pattern: gail aka nightsong shawl

can’t wait to see the whole thing blocked. and i’m curious how big the stole will get with 88g… i’ll keep you posted!
