fun socks

it’s really difficult to take some proper daylight photos if you work from 8am to 7pm and are never home before 8pm… but today i finally managed to take some photos of my new handspun and handknit socks (well actually this time i only was the model, tim was the photographer 🙂 )

yarn: fun – 50% merino, 50% tussah silk, 2ply, spun on my kromski sonata

pattern: once again my standard plain toe-up pattern. mash-up magic toe-up socks recipe i cast on 24 sts and increased to 52. russian bind off

needles: 2.5mm, long circular

moody owl shawl (aka daybreak)

pattern: daybreak by stephen west, size m

i liked knitting this pattern a lot. it’s easy but not boring. the design is great – i like the streight and clean look and that is longer than wide, which is good as i want to wear it as a scarf rather than a shawl.

yarn: old maiden aunt yarn, 100% superwash merino, sock weight. colourways: moody and midnight owl

the yarn is so adorable! very soft, smooth and shiny. a real pleasure to work with! still have some more skeins of old maiden aunt superwash merino in my stash and will definitely buy there again!

needles: 3.5mm circular (knitpro) needle

easter knits

some easter knits i did this year to use up some sock yarn scraps…

i used wollmeise leftovers for this egg. wanted to make more, but i got inredibly bored after the first one 😉

so i knit this little guy instead. may i present you, mr. easter bunny. he’s really tiny and was fun to knit, but i guess amigurumi stuff is just not my favourite thing to do. it takes such a long time to sew pieces together, stuff, weave in thousands of ends…

happy easter!

go for gold

wow, can you believe it?! i won two gold medals in the internal ravelympics competition of team germany!

the participating projects were awarded by the team captains of team germany and the members voted by klicking „agree“. and i won. yay!

hm, i guess this is the time for a moving speech like „i couldn’t have done it alone. so i share these medals with my team whom i had a lot of fun with during the ravelympics, with my boyfriend who loves me although i’m a nuts knitaholic, my mum because she never tought me how to knit…“ erm. yeah. let’s leave it at that 😀

here are my two golden projects!

the octopus in the category „cute and cuddly“:

i might even print out  the medal for him. might calm him down as he is sitting on my cd rack still trying to strangle the poor drawing model puppet 😉

the cut & paste socks in the category „socks“:

thanks to everybody who voded („agree“-d) for me 🙂

green cousteau hat

so this is what became of the „greens“ yarn is spun last weekend: a jaques cousteau hat. well, almost. i had to modify the pattern when i realized i was running out of yarn. so i gave the rim a miss and just knit the hat shorter. but it fits great now and i like the result. what do you think?

oh, and i got 3 more ravelympics medals for my hat:

pattern: jacques cousteau hat

yarn: greens, handspun by be, 100% shetland

needles: 4.0mm dpns

wild berry socks

and another project i finished during ravelympics. it makes me all productive. yay.
the yarn was an experiment that went slightly wrong. i wound the yarn to a skein doubled so i get the same colours for both socks and then dyed it in the skein with easter egg colours and kool aid. but it didn’t turn out very well: many white spots in the middle… but see for yourself.

pattern: improvised toe-up socks
yarn: plain white sock yarn from wollpapst, handdyed
needles: 1 120cm circular needle, 2.5mm

cut & paste socks

finally finished. it took me 2 years to finish these socks. no idea why because i absolutely adore the pattern. it’s easy yet effective and creates a great texture. it also never gets boring.

pattern: cut & paste socks by becca diaz. i slightly changed the pattern and knit them top down instead of toe-up (when i started the socks i was still afraid of toe up 😉 )

yarn: lana grossa meilenweit cotton stretch

needles: 2.5mm dpns

frog frog frog

i took the ravelympics event „aerial unwind“ (= ripping projects you don’t like to reuse the yarn) as an opportunity to tidy my wip box. i had really old projects in there that would have never ever been finished. so i frogged them! yay!

got 3 aerial unwind medals for 3 projects:
