hands up

ok, it’s not really the time for gloves. but i was looking for a quick and easy project because i was bored. i originally wanted to knit them for myself but they turned out way too big. so they are tim’s now and they really suit him!

pattern: hands up gloves by aileen cahill

yarn: noro kureyon sock. i was really annoyed with the noro yarn. i found 2 knots and didn’t even use half a skein for the gloves.

needles: 2.5 mm

fun socks

it’s really difficult to take some proper daylight photos if you work from 8am to 7pm and are never home before 8pm… but today i finally managed to take some photos of my new handspun and handknit socks (well actually this time i only was the model, tim was the photographer 🙂 )

yarn: fun – 50% merino, 50% tussah silk, 2ply, spun on my kromski sonata

pattern: once again my standard plain toe-up pattern. mash-up magic toe-up socks recipe i cast on 24 sts and increased to 52. russian bind off

needles: 2.5mm, long circular

connemara

this skein was spun from one of my das rad der zeit connemara skeins. 100% new zealand lamb in shades of green, blue and brown.

it was really exciting for me as it was my first singles yarn… turned out hopelessly overspun, but hey, it was my first try…

534m and 102g.

i already started spinning a damson shawl with it and am happy to report: you can’t see the overspun twisty bits in the knit fabric anymore. yay! photos of the shawl soon!

blue skies

… smiling at me, nothing but blue skies, do i see… (irwing berlin)

the first yarn spun with the woolee winder. i had to get used to it in the beginning, but we became friends by now 🙂

some infos about the yarn:

fibre is 100% shetland handdyed from wheeldale woolcrafts, i actually counted the rounds to determine the yardage, but i forgot to write it down 🙁 well, i think it was a bit more than 300m and 97g… spun to a single and navajo plied.

fun

spinning is fun. this colourway is called „fun“. so double fun for me 😀

spun two singles and plied them. the result is about 300m and 97g of yarn. the roving is 50% merino, 50% tussah silk and made the yarn really soft and shiny! it’s from rad-der-zeit by the way.

i already started a pair of plain toe-up socks. will post photos soon.

woolee winder!

i used to start drooling as soon as i saw a woolee winder somewhere. those awsomely tidy wound up bobbins! well, i may have talked about it for some time… and the best boyfriend in the world ordered one for me! just like that. it’s not even my birthday, christmas or anything! 😀

so here it is, the woolee winder for my kromski sonata.

we are currently getting to know each other. the flyer develops a lot of drive when you treadle fast and i discovered that the head of my spinning wheel, where flyer is clipped in, is a bit loose and moves sideways. argh. there are two screws and i’ll try to tighten them. the boyfriend already has some other ideas of glueing the metal pole into the wood. we’ll see. as long as it still works i’m going with the motto: never touch a running system… 😉

i started to spin some shetland roving which i intend to navajo ply afterwards.

looks lovely, doesn’t it?!

thanks tim 😀
