my first hand dyed sock yarn!

how exciting. i wanted to try it for ages but couldn’t decide on how to do it and which colours to use… but today i just did it.

it was much more difficult than i thought actually. it’s really hard to achieve a smooth colourway. i tried to use a spoon to apply the dye, but it turned out really patchy. next time i’m going to put the yarn in glasses of dye to get a more steady result…

i’m soooo curious to see the result when the sock yarn is dry. and even more curious how the pattern will look when i knitt socks from it…

here are the photos of the whole „event“ 😉

needle roll

i was really annoyed by my knitting needle box for ages. you could never find the needles you were looking for…

so i just did myself a needle roll, using this tutorial: http://alexandrasknits.blogspot.com/2006/01/tutorial-alexandras-needle-case.html
the tutorial is really easy to follow and the roll is really spacy and versatile… all kinds of needles fit in there… long, short, … even circular!

branching out… scarf in the making

i first started the branching out pattern with lana grossa cool wool 2000 print. the yarn is really lovely and so nice to knit, but it just didn’t accentuate the lace pattern at all. here is a photo:

so i ripped it up again, headed into the city and got myself a similar yarn in white. i didn’t get lana grossa anywhere, so i got a similar substitute from wolle rödel „siena“ and started all over again. here is the result by now:

it’s a lot better in white, don’t you think?!

it’s also the first project i used „lifelines“ so that i don’t need to start all over again or have much hassle if i make a mistake. i learned that quickly after i had to undo a whole pattern repeat because i messed up ONE stitch in the first pattern row *growl*

anyway, it’s coming on nicely… i can’t wait to see it growing… and blocked 🙂

cheep, cheep: bird-bag

story: made this bag for a friend’s little girl. i fell in love with the pattern when i found it on the web and just had to sew it! the special thing about it is, that i dug out the green/yellow flower fabric from my mum’s old stach. it was a rest of the fabric i had a dress from as a kid 🙂 the fabric is still really nice and was perfect for this kids birdy bag!

outer fabric: thin white yeans, yellow/green/white linen with flowers

lining fabric: yellow linen

specialities: the bird shape obviously. snap fastener, wings are extra pockets. plus my first ever piping and frill.
